R.I.P. Dwight "Heavy D" Myers (May 24, 1967 - Nov 8, 2011)

The entertainment world was rocked today with the sad news that Hip Hop Pioneer, Dwight "Heavy D" Myers, died this afternoon at his Beverly Hills home. Myers, who was 44, is believed to have collapsed after complaining of not being able to breathe.
Born in Jamaica and raised in Mount Vernon, New York, Myers was the lead for Heavy D and the Boyz, who become very popular in the late eighties and early nineties. As the first artist signed to Uptown Records, they were known for popular hits, "Somebody for Me" and "Gyrlz, They Love Me" from their 1989 album, Big Time. Myers also appeared on the "Alright" Remix from her Janet Jackson's Rhythm Nation 1814 album released in 1990 and on her late brother, Michael Jackson's 1992 hit, "Jam".
Myers, a Music Producer and Actor, appeared on several television shows and films including, "Living Single," "Boston Public" and "Law and Order: Special Victims Unit." He had just recently appeared on the 2011 BET Hip Hop Awards and in the just-released film, "Tower Heist" which stars Eddie Murphy.
Cause of death is still unknown at this time.
