Open Mic Poetry Slam @ El Mocambo, Toronto, ON - Sun Apr 15th!

Open Minds Respect Events is ready to give you everything we got!

The 7th annual multimedia showcase aims to entertain, enlighten and enliven all ages and types of audience. This show is not just for slam poetry enthusiasts, but music and arts lovers of all stripes.

We have an Open Mic:
Sign Up will take place as you enter the event and the OPEN MIC will start at 8:30 PM Sharp - sign-up is limited due to the main events scheduled; so show up early to make sure you get your name on the list!

A special performance by O.M.R.E. founder Tomy Bewick, as he performs some of his favourite collaborations with artists like Made Wade, Kay’la Fraser and Dwayne Morgan (plus a few surprises).

Returning to reinvent the art of Videoturntablism is O.M.R.E’s original DJ; the one and only RC420 (www.rc420.com)

There will be Art displays by Yogi of Creative Concepts, clothing by garment engineer Martiece and jewelry displays and sales for our sponsored charity Beads For Beds (www.beadsforbeds.com)

Tickets are on sale for $10 in advance (email money transfers accepted); they will be $15 at the door ($13 with the donation of a canned good) and you can message me for discount rates on groups over 5.

We are collecting canned goods for www.servingcharity.com and a portion of total ticket sales will be donated directly to Beads for Beds.

This poetry slam is a pre-registered sign-up (contact grrnstar@hotmail.com for more details). Additionally; the top 3 finalists from this poetry slam WILL earn points towards Dwayne Morgan’s monthly Roots Lounge poetry slam, which could earn them an opportunity to represent Toronto on the National Stage in October.

Open Minds Respect Events has been providing socially conscious events for 7 years and we hope to see all of our favourite and famous supporters out for one more fantabulous show.

Doors open at 8:00 PM and the Open Mic will start at 8:30 PM SHARP.

Keep an Open Mind; it's a JOINT EFFORT!

SLAM RULES:

•Each poem must be of the poet's own construction;
•Each poet gets three minutes (plus a ten-second grace period) to read one poem. If the poet goes over time, points will be deducted from the total score.
•The poet may not use props, costumes or musical instruments;
•Of the scores the poet received from the five judges, the high and low scores are dropped and the middle three are added together, giving the poet a total score of 0-30.
