Music Africa and North by Northeast (NXNE) celebrate the 25th anniversary of Afrofest on Wednesday June 12. Join us for a concert featuring African music at the Gladstone Hotel – The Ballroom, 1214 Queen Street West, doors open at 8 p.m.
Tickets are $10 and can be purchased online at http://www.nxne.com/tickets or at the door.
Michael Stohr, President of Music Africa, says "The 25th anniversary is a very significant milestone for Afrofest. The festival's success is very much a reflection of just how much the African immigrant population has grown over that time, as well as a testament to how much this community has contributed to the local music scene"
The concert will begin with a performance by Njacko Backo (Cameroon) at 8 p.m. followed by Tich Maredza Band (Zimbabwe) at 9 p.m. then, Madagascar Slim (Madagascar) at 10 p.m., Foly Asiko (Nigeria) at 11 p.m. and finally Trinity (Botswana) at midnight, with additional music by DJ Biggy throughout the night.
Afrofest 2013 takes place July 6 & 7 and returns to Woodbine Park. The festival is a chance to discover Africa in the heart of Toronto. It showcases the rich and diverse African culture through music, dance, drumming and theater, with both international and local bands. Held annually since 1989, Afrofest is the African event of the summer!
