Welcome to the 25th Annual Afrofest! The festival was started in 1989 through a vision of broaden the perception of African music and culture. The incredible growth the festival has seen, from 2,000 people at the first one day festival to over 100,000 visitors over a week end, mirrors the growth of the African communities in Toronto over the same time. In 1989 there were said to be just 20,000, almost half of those from Ghana. Today the African community in the Toronto area numbers over 400,000 representing close to 10% of the overall population.
