Since 2004, the Planet Africa Awards program has identified and recognized, leadership and excellence, which produce role models, especially for our young people. The mission is to showcase deserving individuals, organizations, businesses and agencies that make a profound difference in the lives of people of African heritage globally.
Dr. Bernice King, daughter of Civil Rights leader Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., will speak at the 2013 Planet Africa Awards, on Saturday, November 2nd 2013. The legacy of Dr. King will be recognized with the presentation of the Legend Award, to be received by his daughter Bernice, who is the Chief Executive Officer of the King Centre in Atlanta, USA.
Confirmed VIPs include Ontario Minister Michael Coteau of Citizenship and Immigration; Her Worship HazelMcCallion, Mayor of Mississauga; Chief Jennifer Evans, Peel Regional Police Chief; Councillor Michael Thompson,Chair of Toronto's Economic Development and Culture Committee; His Excellency Agotinho Tavares Neto, Angola's Ambassador to Canada and many others. Many VIPs from South, Ethiopia, England, the United State and other countries have also confirmed their attendance.
