Culchahworks Arts Collective, the Toronto-based not-for-profit arts organization, will present a special concert at Toronto's Randolph Theatre on February 6, 2015 – what would have been Reggae icon Bob Marley's 70th birthday. This presentation is part of TD Bank Group's 2015 "Then And Now" Festival, celebrating Black Canadian culture.
"Global Marley" is the latest brainchild of celebrated artist, producer and impresario Andrew Craig, founder and Co-Artistic Director of Culchahworks. The concert brings together a wide cross-section of Toronto artists, from diverse ethnic, cultural and musical backgrounds, to celebrate Marley's global influence. Some of Marley's most classic songs, including "No Woman No Cry", "Jammin'" and "Redemption Song" will be rendered in musical styles ranging from rock to blues, jazz to R & B, African to South Asian, in an effort to highlight Marley's extraordinary musical reach. The performance will culminate in a medley of Marley hits, performed in Reggae style by the ensemble.
Featured performers include Nicky Von Vicky, Julian Taylor, David Wall and the Nathaniel Dett Chorale.
Craig has specifically selected songs from the Marley catalogue that propagate the values of peace, equality and justice that Marley held so dear. Video interviews featuring personal accounts of the importance of Marley's music will accompany the musical presentation.
