UrbanArts
Community Arts Council is proud to present the 8th annual CultureShock
Community Arts Festival, a series of events to highlight the
Weston-Mount Dennis neighbourhood and Toronto. With a schedule of youth
arts programming that focuses on dance, visual arts, and unforgettable
music performances, UrbanArts is excited to prove that Toronto is a
hotbed of talent.
CultureShock Festival – All festival events are free and family-friendly. The
highlight of the summer begins with the UrbanArts Art Show on Thursday
August 9th from 5-7 pm, followed by the film screening of “Beats Rhymes & Life:
The Travels Of A Tribe Called Quest” on Friday August 10th from 5-7
pm. The flagship event and showcase take place on Saturday August 11th
from 3-9pm with the 8th Annual CultureShock Community Arts Festival, at
Weston Farmers Market (14 John Street).
Hosted by one of Toronto’s hottest comedians, Trixx, and Hip Hop pioneer Michie Mee,
the showcase is headlined by two of the most dynamic and talented women
from Toronto. With singles like “Bump”, and “Mannequin”, Toronto’s Trish, flawlessly combines edgy fashion with music. Shi Wisdom has
been building a buzz in the city, and her signature brand of soul has
taken the city and radio airwaves, by storm. Other artists include Church Chizzle, Obidiah, Erik Flowchild, and spoken word performers Yusra, Enuma and Rolling Stone will also be taking the stage.
The
CultureShock Festival will feature an array of local musical talent, an
art exhibit, youth art activities, vendor booths, and of course great
food. The festival aims to profile the artistic community and to reflect
UrbanArts’ ongoing commitment of engaging youth and community
development through the arts.
