NEIL BRATHWAITE

Raised in Montreal, Quebec, with West Indian roots in Barbados, Saxophone player Neil Brathwaite is a well-known jazz musician in Toronto.

Neil was introduced to classical music and studied piano with Daisy Sweeney, the sister of Oscar Peterson’s sister, at the age 7. He was initiated to Jazz by his dad and began to play Alto sax in highschool. Studied Sciences at the Université de Montpelier / France and later studied saxophone in the Jazz program at Humber College with Pat Labarera.

Carol's mother, Gladys Grimmond wrote and created an evening dedicated to what would have been
her daughter's 50th birth year if she was still alive today. Carol’s life was cut short in Oct 2012 on
Thanksgiving weekend when her and her twin brother were hit head on by a drug driver going the wrong way on the highway at high speed.

“Bring Him Home’ pulls back the curtain and gives a brief but heart-warming insight into Carol’s life through a pictorial retrospective, with vocal and instrumental presentations by a variety of talented performers.

The event is FREE... Donations to MADD are appreciated!

The Sattalites are Toronto Reggae Legends. They came together over twenty years ago in Toronto, Ontario as a music school; from then they have flourished across Canada as a very influential reggae group. The worldly vibe that they emit comes from a wide variety of instruments and vocals and their peaceful attitude towards life. The Sattalites are a very well-rounded musical group instrumentally. There are seven members who are almost all multi-instrumentalists, working together to create the smooth and unique sound for which they are known.

Massey Hall presents Lunchtime Live! at Yonge-Dundas Square

'Cheka' Katenen Dioubate was raised by the Manding people of the ancient city of Kankan, Guinea in the tradition of the Jeli or Praise Singer.

Born into a musical family, Cheka was encouraged to adhere to Manding cultural traditions and hold an honoured place in society. Musicians and griots residing in her area passed on the ancient traditions, history, improvisation and storytelling techniques.

Cheka’s main instrument is her voice, she also dances, plays keyboard and traditional percussion instruments from the Guinea region of West Africa. Her second album, Bimogo launches May 23, 2015.
