Carassauga Festival of Cultures, Canada’s second largest multicultural festival, gears up for its 27
th
celebration taking place throughout Mississauga on May 25, 26 and 27,
2012. This year will see 26 pavilions feature spectacular performances,
exotic cuisine and festive activities for visitors of all ages.
“Every year Carassauga introduces new features to enhance the visitor
experience and 2012 is no exception,” says Heather
Grand, Carassauga Chair. “This year we’re thrilled to present 60
cultures, introduce exciting new attractions and showcase the newest member of the Carassauga family, a mascot who will have a large presence throughout the Festival.”
WHAT’S NEW IN 2012
Pavilions
In addition to the many popular
pavilions returning this year including four original Festival participants;
Croatia,
India, p
hilippines and
Portugal, Carassauga welcomes the return of
Serbia to its multicultural landscape
.
Toonie Taste
Carassauga’s most appetizing activity has a tasty new feature. ‘
Toonie Taste’ will offer visitors an opportunity to sample
diverse ethnic cuisines, by selecting small taster plates for only a
Toonie. Delicious full meal selections will still be available, but the
choice is yours!
War of 1812 Encampment
In celebration of its bicentennial and to
commemorate Canada’s involvement in the War of 1812, Carassauga is proud
to present the War of 1812 Encampment at the
Canada pavilion, located outdoors at the Hershey Sports Centre.
New Mascot
2012 marks the arrival of Carassauga’s new
mascot who will join the Festival’s kick-off ceremony on May 19 at
Mississauga Celebration Square. The public is invited to participate in

JRDN Concert
Carassauga is proud to present 2012 JUNO
nominee, R&B Hip Hop artist, Jordan Croucher in a live concert
performance on May 25 at the Hershey Centre, at the Canada Pavilion.
Carassauga Singing Star Contest
Share the excitement as talented amateur solo singers vie for the title of
Carassauga Singing Star 2012.
Passports
Passports
entitle visitors to unlimited entry to all pavilions during festival
hours. Passports are available for $10 in advance or $12 at the door.
Children 12 & under are free, when accompanied by an adult Passport
holder. Passports are sold throughout GTA at retail outlets, community
centres, libraries and at all pavilions.
Free Transit
Passport holders and accompanied children 12-and-under ride free on Carassauga
shuttle buses
and regularly-scheduled MiWay, the new Mississauga Transit bus routes,
during Festival operating hours. All buses are wheelchair accessible
and air conditioned.
