Jay Douglas, known most recently for his role in the creation of and inclusion in (as lead singer of R&B group, The Cougars) the popular Light in the Attic compilation album, Jamaica to Toronto, a project which documents some incredible music from prominent soul, funk, and reggae musicians who emigrated from Jamaica to Toronto between 1967 – 1974.
A talented songwriter, having penned tunes for many artists over the years, Douglas has shared the stage with a who’s who of major stars, including Sly & Robbie, Fats Domino, Percy Sledge, Desmond Decker, Jimmy Cliff, and Toots and the Maytals. Jay Douglas has been dubbed Toronto’s best R&B singer by NOW Magazine (2006) in addition to the recipient of Top Male Singer at the 2007 Canadian Reggae Music Awards. Douglas’ music and influence is among who The Fader has called the “unsung geniuses of Jamaican soul.”
