The Scarborough Youth Resource Centre (SYRC) is delighted to know that we have been selected by Body by Chosen, to be a recipient of the partial proceeds raised at this event.
Background information on the event presented by Body By Chosen:
WHY LUDLOW GILLESPIE?
Ludlow Gillespie was murdered at the age of 25 on May 29th, 2010. While operating a moving vehicle, he was stabbed from behind in the neck.
Violence had always been a reoccurring factor within Ludlow’s life, which later lead to his death. We believe that if Ludlow would have had access to support opportunities that encouraged and engaged him to make better life choices he would have been here today. Ludlow could have shaped his life differently if there were community hubs emplaced that empowered and supported him in his youth. He could have been a civil engineer, a tradesman, or an architect; the list of opportunities goes on. We want to dedicate this event to Ludlow and all the other youth that have been a victim of violence that could have been prevented.
THE EVENT
Event: Two Exciting (Men’s & Women’s) Basketball Games and a Dunk Off Competition
Date: Saturday May 28th, 2011
Location: Ryerson University
Time: Doors Open at 5 pm, Women Tip Off @ 5:30pm

PURPOSE
Our purpose is to use this basketball tournament to:
• Raise money to support the development of programs and community hubs where youth can gather and to help overcome the growing youth violence within our community.
• Spark, and sustain, public interest in youth violence, and ultimately raise additional funds for education for our youth, parents and the general community.
