Second, you might ask, “Reggae music exists in Korea?” Yes it does, and it’s growing in popularity. There are a handful of Korean reggae inspired bands that have been playing for several years now including Seoul's Windy City. You’re probably saying to yourself, “It’s Korean reggae music. How good can it be?” That’s a fair question to ask. However you might be surprised because it’s quite good. Windy CIty, formed by front man Kim Ban Jang combines elements of African music in addition to reggae and salsa, creating a fusion of new sounds while simultaneously paying homage to classic roots music. Having played around the world, including festival gigs in Japan, Brazil, England and even Jamaica, Windy City is a serious band who's international presence continues to expand. Throughout their career House of David Gang has been known for their uplifting roots rock reggae sound reminiscent of Kingston, Jamaica's music scene in the late 70's mixed with a modern roots Canadian feel. The band takes its name from The House of David, an after-hours spot on Queen Street West that was a hot spot for artists from the city's burgeoning Rastafarian and reggae community from the late 80s until the mid 90s. Now with the release of their album "Reggae Warrior" on NuFunk Records, the band continues to pave their own road as Canada's hardest touring reggae band. Visual Artist Tai Kim is a Canadian artist of Korean decent and is a member of The Propeller Center of Visual Art and currently teaching at the Koffler Center of Art. She's been following the work of Windy City for sometime and helped connect the band to the Canadian Music Festival. Tai runs the Art department of the House of David Gang, designing and making t-shirts, mini comic and .created the artwork for the band's new CD "Reggae Warrior." She often sings back up with House of David and her own roots rock reggae band Roots Vibe. She is a part of a Canadian-Korean-Jamaican cultural movement in Canada and has provided her artwork for the poster of this show. More on Tai Kim here: http://
