James Dewitt Yancey (February 7, 1974 – February 10, 2006), better known by the stage names J Dilla or Jay Dee, was an American record producer who emerged from the mid-1990s hip hop scene in Detroit, Michigan.
Having worked primarily with Detroit artists, he championed an experimental Detroit sound, quickly becoming renown having produced for the likes of A Tribe Called Quest, De La Soul, Busta Rhymes, Common, Madlib, Erykah Badu and many more. His body of work is regarded quite often as some of the best production hip hop has seen to this present day.
Feb 7th 2014, on his birthday, we remember a great musician by honouring his legacy with a night of his music, and the myriad of musicians he influenced - including special guest for the night: BLACK MILK
as well as...
Arcee (cratery)
DJ Taktiks (Mixtape Massacre)
