I Heart Regent Park Photo Exhibition @ Daniel's Spectrum, Toronto, ON - Thurs May 8th - Thurs Jun 12th!
Daniels Spectrum in Regent Park and Scotiabank Contact Photography Festival presents I Heart Regent Park
1st floor gallery:
Daniels Spectrum is pleased to host I HeART Regent Park, an exhibition of selected works by Toronto based photographer David Zappariolli and Regent Park based agency Pathways to Education and Dixon Hall. This exhibition presents a visual snapshot of the Regent Park neighbourhood, Canada’s oldest and largest social housing project, from the past to the present. The photographs illustrate the stories of the area: snapshot photographs of the neighbourhood and the people that live in it. The portrait, the photo essay, and other forms for photographic expression are the tools used to tell the intimate narratives of this diverse community, itself a city within a city.
2nd floor gallery:
INTERSECTIONS
This collection of photographs compiled by nine individual artists explore the intersections of life experiences faced by newcomer and first generation Canadian residents of a multicultural city. Issues of identity, family, community, rituals - new and old, accessibility, assimilation and others are visually represented, challenged, transmuted and sometimes entirely omitted in order to tell their unique stories. For these artists the greater Toronto area becomes the backdrop for activities of the members making a living here. The portrait, the photo essay, and other forms for photographic expression are the tools used to tell the intimate narratives of these diverse storytellers.
