Afrobeat City @ Lisgar Park, Toronto, ON - Sat Sept 16th!
2 intense hours of 100% human powered 'afrobeats' dance music. A free, outdoor intro to live African dance music. Our village is the city. You are our tribe. The stage is your feet, so dance like nobody’s watching... our drums will catch your moves.
'Afrobeats' is contemporary African dance music distinct from the "afrobeat" created by Fela Anikulapo Kuti. Its an awakening, blending African music styles from around the world: house, kwaito, soukous, highlife, hip hop, coup decalé, reggae... We do the organic roots version with digital extras...
Dora award-winning composer, W Queen W entertainment 'poster boy', Kobèna Aquaa-Harrison, directs musicians from Ghana, Nigeria, Kenya, S. Sudan, Australia & Japan including Ariet Opolo, Kunle, Ruth Mathiang and other guests.
