Photos from Black Artists' Networks Dialogue - BANDPried and Prejudice Panel Discussion
Fashion, Black Men's Sexuality, Masculinity, Gaze, Bias and Identity: This Saturday, we join Artist, Gordon Shadrach, in discussion about how these themes influence his body of work, "Pried and Prejudice."
This important and timely discussion will be moderated by Fashion Influencer and Art History Examiner, Jason Cyrus, who uses fashion as a lens to analyze artistic moments, cultural shifts and historical events.
Gordon Shadrach's acrylic paintings explore the relationship between constructed appearance and bias. In the "Pried and Prejudice" series, fashion is used as a cultural conduit to explore the validity, social implications and stigmas that can result when clothing is perceived as a legitimate signifier of Black masculinity.
The "Pried and Prejudice" exhibition is a part of BAND Gallery and Cultural Centre's Emerging Artist Showcase, on display until October 22.
