Hacking Black Futures Exhibition Reception @ BAND Gallery and Cultural Centre, Toronto, ON - Wed Jan 17th!
We invite you to transcend time and ideologies with us as we enter the future-based utopian space of the "Hacking Black Futures" exhibition reception on Wednesday, January 17, 2018.
"Hacking Black Futures" is a special feature of the Toronto Design Offsite Festival and it is exclusively organised by students of OCAD University . The exhibition uses design speculation and immersive installation to transform BAND19 into a futuristic residence in a Black-centric society devoid of oppression.
Through the collaboration of an intergenerational team of Black designers, artists, photographers and makers, this exhibition investigates ideas about the future with a focus on Blackness and Black-affiliated places and spaces.
The contributing artists are Andre Baynes, Denzel Arthur, Lequanne Collins-Bacchus, Tura Cousins, Ene Agi, Thomas Graham, Ashley Lewis, Daejuawn Hamilton, Maisha Marshall-Ende, Renee Mathews, Kelvin Mendie, Addae Nurse, Michael Otchie, Kimani Peter, Peter Scott and Olivia Spence.
The exhibition is curated by Andre Baynes and Chiedza Pasipanodya.
