Live Music Events featuring Gyles @ Harlem Restaurant, Toronto, ON - Sat May 7th!
FRI APRIL 1ST
G Y L E S
Powerhouse vocalist and thoughtful lyricist - Ladies and Gentlemen: meet Gyles. One cannot deny this hardworking dynamo as her talents have amassed an impressive array of industry accomplishments.
Gyles' vocals are behind the hook of Juno and Much Music Award winner Carlos Morgan's "Baby c'mon", featured on Groove Essentials Volume 1. Soon after, she provided background vocals for Juno award winner Jully Black and Juno nominee Camille Douglas. Having been noticed quickly for a singing style bathed with sparkly tenacity, Gyles was brought on board as lead vocalist for Toronto neo-soul band Jamesking. Two of her songs have been awarded second place at the 2008 and 2010 Radio Star National Songwriter's Competition. One of which, has been featured in the major motion picture: Shark City - starring Vivica A. Fox. Her live performances have garnered her headlining honors for the 2008 Montreal Funk Festival and opening in 2009 for Ivana Santilli during Canadian Music Week.
Gyles is now on the most exciting chapter of her musical journey: writing for her solo debut. Spring 2012 will see the launch of her debut single “On One Knee” - a perfect mix of old-school danceability, playful imagery and silky strong vocals that will surely capture fans who appreciate real music, both young & young at heart.

This separation has devastating consequences on each family member who are all searching for love, reconciliation and forgiveness. Film Screening: HIP-HOP EVOLUTION @ Innis Town Hall, Toronto, ON - Thurs May 5th!
Join us for an outdoor screening of Hip-Hop Evolution. The evening starts at 9:00 p.m. with music by Relic The Oddity.
Seating begins at 7:30 p.m. and is on a first-come, first-served basis. Weather permitting.
About the film
There's no doubt hip-hop dominates popular music culture today. Its influences are far-reaching and its performers international superstars. How did this New York house party experiment evolve into one of the most dominant sounds in music? The Banger Films team behind Metal: A Headbanger's Journey and Rush: Beyond the Lighted Stage brings a powerhouse of a film starring hip-hop legends and pioneers to trace the genre's evolution. Acclaimed Canadian rapper Shad acts as our informed and enthusiastic guide, travelling to the Bronx and Harlem to talk with hip-hop's originators and biggest stars—Kool Herc, Afrika Bambaataa and Grandmaster Flash, among many others—tracing the music's development and influences from the underground to the global phenomenon it is today. Fascinating and sometimes surprising, full of music and archival film, Hip-Hop Evolution goes beyond the hype to place hip-hop in the canon of musical history. Lynne Fernie
About the music
Rel McCoy aka Relic is an emcee, producer, singer, songwriter, engineer and D.J. His honest and soulful approach to music can clearly be heard from one release to the next, as he continues to embody the bold and vulnerable spirit of hip hop culture. This past summer, Toronto hip hop fans were treated to an extended performance as part of the 2015 Pan Am Games and at MANIFESTO. He's played festivals including SXSW, NXNE, Toronto Jazz Fest, Halifax Jazz Fest, Halifax Pop Exlosion, Sled Island, MOSOfest and Uprock. You can also find Relic's name in the producer/engineer/featured artist credits on all four albums by Juno award winner Shad.

Choir! Choir! Choir! Remembers Prince @ Massey Hall, Toronto, ON - Mon May 2nd!
On April 21st, 2016 Prince Rogers Nelson passed away at the age of 57. His death is the sad end of an era, but his legacy as a musical genius and cultural icon will live on. In honour of Prince’s legacy on Monday, May 2nd Choir! Choir! Choir! invite the people of Toronto to perform one of his most beloved songs, "When Doves Cry" in three-part harmony at the iconic Massey Hall. Proceeds from the event will be donated to two Toronto music education charities, the Regent Park School of Music, a non-profit community music school whose mandate is to provide music education to underprivileged youth in Regent Park and other areas of the City of Toronto, and Massey Hall and Roy Thomson Hall’s Share the Music education and outreach program.
“For more than 5 years, C!C!C! have met twice weekly to celebrate the songs that define our lives," remarks Nobu Adilman, co-founder of C!C!C! “When we heard the news about Prince we were shocked and upset. Like most people, we wanted to get together and share our love for his music. The outreach from the community was instant as it was overwhelming - it was obvious people were mourning and wanted to come together.”
Choir! Choir! Choir! just recently returned from a two night musical tribute of the late David Bowie at Carnegie Hall and Radio City Music Hall in New York City, where the group engaged thousands of people in singing a finale of “Space Oddity." The finale performance was dubbed ”an emotional high point” by the Wall Street Journal. The offer to perform by the show’s producers came after C!C!C!’s tribute to the music of David Bowie at The AGO went viral online.
“The world of music has lost too many legends in 2016. We want to do everything we can to respect and celebrate them,” says Adilman. “Prince was all love, deep funk and pure rock. His style and songs made for the world's most inclusive dance party, so let's go crazy, gather thousands of singers, and pay respect to the enormous legacy he left behind."
Tickets for this unique experience are $19.99.
Choir! Choir! Choir! is a singing group based out of Toronto and led by creative directors Nobu Adilman and Daveed Goldman. The group takes a non-traditional approach: there are no auditions and they meet up twice weekly to learn original choral arrangement of pop songs. Since 2011, they have built up a dedicated and passionate community of singers, a thriving international fan base on YouTube and launched a number of successful charity campaigns. They have performed with Patti Smith, Tegan & Sara, Damien Rice as well as onstage at Carnegie Hall and Radio City Music Hall for The Music of David Bowie tribute concert. Choir! Choir! Choir! exists to celebrate music and push the boundaries between practice and performance, artist and audience, offering therapeutic benefits with the ultimate side effect: a powerful community.
Special holds available to Friends First members online or by phone.

Prince - A Celebration of His Music & Live @ Revival Bar, Toronto, ON - Sun May 1st!
Some of Toronto's finest musicians come together to celebrate the music and life of
Prince, one of the most influential artists of the past century.
Don't miss your chance to hear the greatest Prince jams performed live!
Confirmed artists include
Trust Chen Pow, Jennie Laws, and Alana Bridgewater, with more special guests being
added, all backed by a stellar band, under the direction of Andrew Craig.
DJ KC will spin Prince classics and rarities from 6:00 p.m.
The live performance starts promptly at 7:00 p.m., and will be one long set of unforgettable Prince moments.
Following the performance, the DJ will spin out the evening.
Sensing the need for artists and the public to communally gather and grieve this momentous loss, Toronto promoters Quisha Wint and Andrew Craig joined forces to create this event. Between the two of them, they have produced highly-successful tributes to several luminary artists, including Stevie Wonder, Earth Wind and Fire, and Luther Vandross.
In keeping with Prince's philanthropic efforts, a portion of the proceeds from the event will be donated to a local children's charity. We are asking guests to wear a little to a lot of purple to the event.
