CTFF2014 kicks off with a delicious Caribbean reception in association with the Consulate General of the Republic of Trinidad & Tobago and the World Premiere of The Glamour Boyz Again! Sparrow and Superior on the Hilton Rooftop
A remarkable acoustic performance by two of Calypsos most venerated figures, the Mighty Sparrow and Lord Superior, the film includes reminiscences by both Sparrow and Superior, whose friendship dates back more than 55 years, to the mid-1950s. Sparrows execution at the Hilton is arguably his best-rendered acoustic performance ever recorded.
THE MIGHTY SPARROW WILL BE IN ATTENDANCE!!!
Slinger Francisco, better known as The Mighty Sparrow, affectionately dubbed The Birdie is the unrivaled Calypso King of the World, with a career that spans over 40 years. This artist par excellence has earned his rightful place as "King of the Calypso World", defeating every other pretender to his throne.
SHORT FILM
AFTER MAS
Karen Martinez | Trinidad and Tobago/UK | 2013 |
AFTER MAS is a new short film from London-based Trinidadian filmmaker Karen Martinez. It tells the story of a love that flourishes under the cover of darkness during the festival of J'ouvert on the streets of Port-of-Spain. Shot in Trinidad in February 2013 during Carnival, we experience the charge of this bacchanalian drama before following the characters return to their separate lives. In the cold light of day, can these young lovers from very different backgrounds stay true to their desires?
A richly textured film about identity, desire and conformity, After Mas had its world premiere at the Trinidad & Tobago Film Festival in September 2013 where it picked up the Best Local Short award.
