Back in Toronto after recent tour dates in Hawaii, Trinidadian-born multi-award winning jazz trumpeter BROWNMAN ALI brings his straight-ahead hard-swinging acoustic quartet to the Old Mill's Home Smith Bar for a night of 50s & 60s jazz ala Miles Davis, John Coltrane, Joe Henderson, Duke Ellington and the great American jazz songbook. Ali has won 2 National Jazz Awards, a SOCAN award for composition, 4 Toronto Independent Music Awards, Montreal Jazz Fest's "Grand Prix du Jazz" award, an International Independent Music Award, is heralded as "Canada's preeminent jazz trumpet player" by the New York Village Voice and was named "one of the top 10 reasons to visit Toronto" by Air Canada.

Brownman delivers a wide range of styles from bebop to hip-hop. A unique and provocative trumpet player, he is In high demand in the studio world with over 300 CD appearances to date, working with notables from Quincy Jones, Paul Simon, Mos Def, Gary Bartz, Jay-Z, Missy Elliot, and Chucho Valdes, to Guru’s Jazzmatazz and the Mingus Dynasty Band. He leads seven unique ensembles including the internationally-acclaimed Miles Davis influenced Brownman Electryc Trio, the award-winning Cruzao Latin Jazz Quintet, and tonight’s hard-swinging Brownman Akoustic Quartet.
