Barbados Day at Woodbine Racetrack

A day of celebration took place at the 5th Annual Barbados Day at Woodbine event last Saturday afternoon.

Bajan Calypsonian, Mac Fingall, entertained the crowd who were predominantly enjoying Bajan cuisine including some very tasty flying fish.

A Special presentation was held for 2007 Barbadian Champion Jockey, Patrick Husbands, who has more than 1500 career wins and was the first Caribbean Jockey to ride in the Kentucky Derby in 2006.

Serious Business on the Sirius Stage--Reid and Rudder Turn Out Toronto's Harbourfront!

Legendary Calypsonian, David Rudder, and Jamaican Dancehall sensation, Junior Reid, tore up the Sirius Stage last Saturday night with two big free concerts at Toronto's Harbourfront Stage.

The event was part of the nine-day Luminato Festival of Arts and Creativity which ended on Sunday.

Rudder, a former vocalist with Charlie's Roots Band out of Trinidad and Tobago, kept the audience grooving during his one hour performance and gave them a taste of his latest track, "Oil and Music" which he recorded with fellow island-mate, Machel Montano.

Junior Reid has continued to enjoy success as a solo artist and producer after leaving the group Black Uhuru in 1988. His voice is well-known for his 1990 hit, "One Blood" which has been sampled by Hip Hop Artists including The Game and Wu Tang Clan. His 2007 appearance on the American Music Awards alongside R&B Artist Alicia Keys was one of the highlights of the show. He is featured on the remix of her chartopping track, "No One" from her latest album, As I Am. Reid debuted "Don't Play Me Dirty," a new track from his album which is due out soon.

Ayah the Problem Woman Rocks Revival!

Last Wednesday night, soulful R&B Artist, Ayah, rocked the Revival Bar in Toronto at her "Ayah is the Problem Woman" Mixtape Release party. 'Love and Marriage and New York City' made its Canadian debut on Victoria day weekend at Toronto's Premiere Dance Theatre, located at Harborfront Centre. The play, which first premiered in Kingston, Jamaica in 1999, has toured all over the United States, Great Britain and off-Broadway in New York City. Written, Directed and starring Jamaican Playwright, David Heron, the play follows the lives of two couples who marry to get their US visas. Other cast members include, New-York based Janel C Scarborough, Nixon Cesar and Jamaican Actress, Karen Harriott.

Breakaway Relief Care Presents Families In Action Saving Our Children Free One Day Event - Sat May 10!

Breakaway Relief Care (BRC) is a non-profit out Reach and Resource Organization in the Jane and Finch community. We are on the frontlines helping disadvantaged youths find meaning and purpose in their lives. BRC’s primary goals are to save our children, keep families together and equip our youths to reach goals they set for themselves.

We encourage our youths to engage in activities that promote assets, competencies and resiliency. BRC collaborates with community agencies together with the Toronto District School Board (TDSB) and (TCDSB) to develop individual plans to address the needs of minority groups.

We will be hosting our third annual Families In Action Saving Our Children event and walk in the Jane and Finch community May10th and June 8th 2008.

On May 10, 2008 we will be participating and conducting our third annual Families In Action Saving Our Children event at James Cardinal McGuigan CHS. This event will highlight our talented youth through music, dance, spoken word and positive testimonies from various youth.

Our Youth will show they can change conflict through Peace, Love, leadership, diversity, community empowerment, and accountability.

Our annual Peace walk will be on June 8th commencing from Jane and Sheppard mall to Jane and Finch Mall. Event time will be from 1pm to 6.30pm.

We would like to invite you to attend and participate in our up coming Families In Action Saving Our Children events. Our theme is peace, love and unity for all people a violent free community and city Please support us with these initiatives.
