Manifesto Organization is  Recruiting a New Chairperson for the Organizations Board of Directors!

Manifesto creates spaces – both physical and digital – that inspire, develop, and amplify diverse communities of young people through arts, culture and media.

 

Founded in 2007, Manifesto is one of Canada’s premier contemporary youth arts and culture platforms, producing carefully curated programming in music, visual arts, dance and more for over 14 years. Through concerts, art shows, block parties, workshops, summits, pop ups, and our flagship Manifesto Festival of Community & Culture, we reflect the beauty, talent and ideas of our city back on itself – helping to fuel an ongoing cycle of creation, expression and inspiration. We put a focus on cultivating local arts, culture and community both on and off stage – by providing platforms for local artists to grow, enriching experiences and content for young people to share, and inspiring spaces for young creatives to connect with each other. Started and run by young people, Manifesto helps create countless volunteer, internship and employment opportunities – powering a multidisciplinary talent and training incubator for future leaders. We help build careers, foster community connections and nurture civic pride – all while contributing to the vitality of the city we love.

As a registered non-profit, all Board member positions are voluntary. We are grateful for community members who have contributing in the Manifesto Board Chair position in the past: Adrienne Lorico, Miro Oballa, Garvia Bailey, Kehinde Bah, Shavonne Hasfal-McIntosh and Che Kothari.

The Director shall be elected for a term of up to two (2) years. A Director shall not serve for more than six (6) consecutive years, at which point the Director would be required to resign. No Director who has resigned will be eligible for nomination until at least one (1) year has elapsed since resignation.

Beenie Man vs Bounty Killer IG Battle on @VerzuzTV - My Thoughts

This was the best battle so far during the pandemic! @verzuztv you delivered!

I've been privileged to see both @kingbeenieman and @grunggaadzilla in concert separately.

For fans of reggae dancehall, this was special. To witness two of #Jamaica's greatest entertainers in the same location, with live DJs, clean sound, clear visuals was just perfect. It was like watching them in concert.  I don't  think anyone expected them to be in the same space. We thought that we were getting the typical split screen that we've become accustomed to during these battles with one artist calling the other and they each play their songs and explain a bit of the history of the song. But it was so much more! They were live! They were vibing, joking and genuinely loving every minute, even taking jabs at each other while introducing their songs. It was everything we needed during this crazy time.

Personally, I grew up listening to both and enjoy their music equally.  I don't really care who won. They proved that they each could hold their own. They didn't even do all of their songs, but it doesn't matter.  To see dancehall on IG's platform with 470,000K watching for an hour and a half from all over the world, that speaks volumes. This was for the culture.

They didn't let the brief visit from police stop them  or disrupt the flow.  Beenie wasn't having it. He made sure that  they knew there was a live performance happening in front of plenty people. They left after a few minutes, but it makes you wonder if someone sent them there out of spite.

Real fans will remember this night forever!  Thank you Moses and Rodney.  Much respect.

Guelph-based artist Andrew Craig returns to Heritage Hall for the 3rd annual Holiday Soul concert. For years, Andrew helped usher in the magic of the season with his beloved Gospel Christmas Project, which made its Guelph debut in 2011, and was a staple at the River Run Centre from 2012 through 2015. In 2017, Andrew inaugurated his Holiday Soul show - a much more intimate musical experience, that combines new, original songs with tried-and-true seasonal classics. Film Screening: The Murder of Fred Hampton @ 720 Spadina Avenue, Toronto, ON - Wed Dec 4th!

50 years ago in the early hours of December 4, 1969, a police raid ended the life of 21-year old Black Panther Party leader Fred Hampton. According to the Southside Weekly, ”A barrage of police bullets struck him in his sleep as he lay beside his pregnant fiance, Akua Njeri, who survived. Another occupant, Black Panther security chief Mark Clark, was also killed.” The evidence shows the police fired nearly 100 shots into Hampton's apartment.

Join the Spring Socialists to watch -- and learn from -- this documentary film exposing the state’s involvement in the murder of Fred Hampton and so many other Black Panther Party leaders. The film is as relevant today as it ever was, in light of ongoing racist police violence. This documentary also shows the incredible community-based organizing that was a hallmark of the Black Panther Party.
