VIDEOS & PIX: The JunoFest URBFresh Urban Music Showcase!

The 40th Anniversary of the Juno Awards took place in Toronto last month and for the first time ever, the week of music showcases leading up to the Junos known as JunoFest had an urban music component.

The legendary Hard Rock Cafe situated in the heart of downtown Toronto at Yonge-Dundas Square, was the site for the inaugural two-night URBFresh Urban Music Showcase on March 25th and 26th.

Presented by UMAC, The Urban Music Association of Canada, The Canadian Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences (CARAS) & The JUNO Award Urban Music Committees, the event showcased 2011 Juno nominees in Rap, Reggae and R&B Soul.

The crowd was treated to performances from: Karl Wolf; Eternia & MoSS; Silver (aka Solitair); Tony Anthony; D-Sisive; Elaine "Lil Bit" Shepherd; Tonya P; Ghettosocks; Lyndon John X and Quanteisha Benjamin.

URBFresh was hosted by the pioneers of the Canadian Hip Hop scene, Wes "Maestro" Williams and Michie Mee.

Thrilled to be a part of the event, Maestro expressed his feelings about the first ever urban music showcase during Juno Awards week. "I'm feeling good. It's a beautiful thing...making the opportunity to come out here is a beautiful thing because back in the day when we started, we never had stages like this. We never had urban artists...This is progress right here." Michie Mee chimed in "...we just never had this so I'm really excited and we're going to celebrate."
