Small World Music launches their 2012 Fall Festival at Lula Lounge with The Battle of Santiago and Rambunctious with DJ medicineman
The Battle of Santiago blends afro-cuban rhythms, screaming rock guitars, dub basslines and soaring horns and flutes. Exploring the boundaries of rhythm and sound, The Battle of Santiago presents a unique experience, carefully walking on the edge of rock and world music, developing a new genre they call Afro-Cuban Post-Rock.

Rambunctious is noisy, very active, and hard to control, usually as a result of excitement or youthful energy. Nine horns plus one drummer equals dance party. You make a title, we make a song. Toronto rabble-rouser Michael Louis Johnson leads jams of swing, funk, balkan-beat and more.

Brazilian Blend - Fall Festival Finale

Sun Sep 30, 2012
Small World Music wraps up with a Fall Festival finale party and concert at Lula Lounge on September 30th
Maracatu Mar Aberto is the sound of the “Open Sea” – the rhythm of oars and song carried over the ocean, a little game they play with drums, voice and dance.
With its roots in Brazil’s maracatu de baque virado, Maracatu Mar Aberto is a workshop and performance group that performs and studies that northern Brazilian genre from Recife. Their style is traced through the lineage of Maracatu Estrela Brilhante do Recife and Mestre Walter de França, Trovão das Minas and Maracatu Nunca Antes. It’s a living tradition of maracatu developed collectively in a local context. Not simply miming an old folkloric tradition Maracatu Mar Aberto is growing in its new Canadian home.
Like their name, they play with the influences that have traveled from Africa to Brazil and onwards to Toronto and beyond.Their show is pure rhythm, emotion, movement and excitement.
Featuring:
Maria Bonita & The Band
DJ eLman (Dos Mundos Radio)
