Hall Party @ The Great Hall, Toronto, ON - Fri Feb 5th!

Massey Hall presents at The Great Hall

In advance of our presentation of globalFEST’s Creole Carnival, we transform The Great Hall with a trio of celebrations offering Brazilian, Colombian and Caribbean Carnival experiences.

We transform The Great Hall’s three rooms into Carnival central, bringing to life the fusion of African and Latin roots and the meeting of traditions and new directions that created the vibrant music and dance scenes across the region – scenes that are making increasing waves around the world.

In the Main Hall, Brazil takes centre stage, with live music from dub-reggae-samba-funk-and-more outfit Mar Aberto SoundSystem, whose memorable set on the Roy Thomson Hall patio helped wrap up the season and series. Joining them are DJsGeneral Eclectic and Simba, along with live dance from Dance Migration Company.

Singer, producer, artist and more Lido Pimienta was raised in Barranquilla, Colombia, and, since moving to Canada, has performed and recorded solo and with a range of artists from near (A Tribe Called Red) and far (Chancha Via Circuito, from Buenos Aires). Employing installation, music, dance and more, she’ll bridge tradition and technology in the Conversation Room with guests including A New Tradition, who combines ancestral musical styles and hip hop, turntables and spoken word; Mas Aya, whose electronic music is rooted in traditional sounds and instrumentation; and Anita Graciano.

The Caribbean comes north to Studio 3 with a Trinidadian and St. Kitts session featuring two of Toronto’s finest DJs spinning soca and Carnival favourites. DJ Shy has risen quickly through the ranks of Toronto’s DJ scene, with a love and deep knowledge of everything from soca and reggae to disco, pop and more. Jester has spun soca, reggae, hip hop, RnB and more throughout North America, Europe and the Caribbean, and on the air at Flow 93.5, CIUT and, currently, on G98.7. He’s also perform alongside artists ranging from Drake, Kardinal Offishall, Busta Rhymes, Kanye West, Erykah Badu, DJ Jazzy Jeff and many more.

This presentation is 19+.
