If you want to hear what a national champ sounds like, you should be coming to this slam...because feature poet Amoya Reé won the national title with the 2018 Toronto Poetry Slam Team!

NO open mic due to that stage time being reserved for a partnership we are doing with a community organization called SKETCH. That's also why the door fee is $10 this time.

NOTE: We are now a two round slam! Scores are cumulative. And it's still 12 poets max in the first round, then 6 in the 2nd.

 Amoya Reé is a Jamaican-Canadian performance poet and 2018 National Champion. Her writing is rooted in her lived experiences as immigrant & young mother. She began exploring performance poetry in 2008 & since then she has shared her stories in classrooms & boardrooms across Ontario. Most recently she sat as captain of the 2018 Toronto Poetry Slam team who were semi-finalists at the National Poetry Slam in Chicago and won the national championship in Guelph, Ontario.

The Drake Hotel has 1 step at the front door on Queen St. W. There are no steps and a button to open the door on Beaconsfield (west side of the building)
To get from the lobby to the Underground, there are 19 steps to the doors/bar level, then 4 steps leading from the bar area to where the chairs are setup. Bathrooms are back on the same level as the bar in the Underground. A wheelchair accessible, gender neutral washroom is on the main lobby level.
