This month Afrika Djelly is “all about da beats.” Bring your voice, bring a drum, bring your vibes, shake your bum...

May is International Drum Month. Afrika Djelly gathers all “griots”, dancers, drummers and groovy people to answer the call of the talking drums.

Tama, dondo, djembe, apentoma, conga, tumba, raquinto, bongo... ngoma of all kinds welcome in a chorus of drum nations to get you up & shaking your calabash. The ambience is cool under the wing of the Blakbird & the rhythm knob will be turnt up to "sizzle". Come down & let off steam, we have A/C

Afika Djelly is TO's original & only, monthly African music, live band, open mic, dance lesson & DJ party. Ever. Featuring exciting artists from Ghana, Senegal, India, Nigeria, Kenya, Jamaica, Cote D'Ivoire, Zimbabwe, USA, Ethiopia, France, Trinidad, Ireland, Burundi, Sudan, Uganda, S. By demand we've returned - running twice a month: 1st and 3rd Sundays, supporting the SESIA arts exchange project. ADj features wild combinations of dancers, singers & musicians from Ghana, Senegal, India, Nigeria, Kenya, Jamaica, Zimbabwe, Ethiopia, Trinidad, Ireland, Burundi, Sudan, Uganda, S. Africa, Congo.... even Toronto.

SESIA Arts Project presents the only INTERACTIVE African music, live band, DJ, food party. Ever. Always spicy, ever elegant and predictably, unpredictable.

The original TV show format that re-defined ‘open-mic’ with interviews and fantastic, once-in-a-lifetime collaborations from award-winning African musicians, singers, comedians, spoken word artists, dancers… from Nigeria, Sudan, Ghana, Kenya, Cuba, India, Brazil, Angola, Congo, Ethiopia, Guinée, Jamaica & Canada! 

Hosted & backed by Afromadjiik band with Musical Director: award-winning performer, radio host & former AfroFest Pres/Art.Director, Kobena Aquaa-Harrison 

Co-Hosted by multi-lingual Tanzanian star and Tchema Arts Director, Djenabou Mare, with award-winning Hindi/R&B vocalist & songwriter, Ruby Goralia.
