Thanks to all who came through to our first session at The Rivoli on thanksgiving weekend! We were all so happy with the new space for DUTTY and are looking forward to our second installment!.... where we will be featuring very special guest selector;

DEEJAY SHAI (Xixgon Intl)!!
if you have been paying attention to reggae events in the city at all, you will know who this man is. When he is not busy killing sounds all around town and abroad under the handle "XIXGON INTL", he is the man who heads IREMEMBER, the organization that has brought some of the tuffest reggae artists to the city including, most recently; Chronixx, also Jesse Royal, Luciano, Jah 9, Protoje.... and the list goes on....

CHOPPA CHOP has been running his sound "Big Toe's HiFi" for over a decade. With chapters in New Mexico and the UK, he has brought it back to the Toronto area respectively. With a very broad and wide knowledge of Reggae, both past and present, it makes for a very exciting and well rounded set. His love for Reggae and Dancehall is infectious and a delight!

These two selectors joined forces when DUTTY and IREMEBER linked up for a very special Caribana event last summer at Revival.... Wickeeeeed! I've been waiting for this combination to happen again ever since!! and i am definitely not the only one......

I CANNOT WAIT to hear what these two selectors have in store for us..... join us at The Rivoli backroom on Friday December 11!!

well hello again....

For November's DUTTY we will be visiting The Piston!!
with very special guest selector CHOPPA CHOP!!!

It's been a minute....

When I first started this party, I really just wanted something that was fun, people could come enjoy themselves and each other and love reggae and dancehall, together. it was not about the latest dubplates or anything like that. which i love hearing at other parties. but that wasn't what i wanted to do.

i love reggae. i think a lot of people do. i know a lot of djs that love it too and although they may not normally be found spinning reggae or dancehall... they love it and are skilled and talented enough as djs, to be able to produce an incredible love soaked set. each one so different from the other but always keeping the party moving and the people happy and dancing all night.

Almost every dj that has guested for DUTTY has been one of my favourite djs in the city, or i have become a fan after i was put onto them; deejay NaNa, Son of S.O.U.L., Ken L Jones, General Eclectic, Jason Palma, Paul E Lopes, Soul Proprietor and K-Cut. whoa.

So with that history - now there is November with CHOPPA CHOP!!!

Now, he is actually a Reggae/Dancehall dj. This is his specialty....

Him and his team have been running sound systems, running a label and throwing parties all across the UK&Europe, Canada and New Mexico under the name "BIG Toe's HiFi" for the last 10 years+

The first time i met John Farrugia (aka Choppa Chop), he was spinning at one of his parties. after only a little while listening, i had to ask "okay, who is this guy for real"?
faaaantastic set.

i wanted to hear more and, better yet, do a party together... for mine and your sake!
i worked the plan and here it is......

I am so excited that he is now going to be running DUTTY at The Piston in November!!

i am so glad to have met him and i think you should meet him too.... while he's doing what he is reeeeeeeeeallly good at!!

One more Summer Reggae Jam!!

I've loved every single one of these DUTTY parties.

Some of my all time favourite DJs in the city have come and guested throughout the past year and it has been such a fun night!

The plan was simple; gather some dope DJs that love Reggae, but usually spin Hip Hop or Soul or Funk or House or Jazz or..... and get them to spin an all Reggae and/or Dancehall set for one night. What came of it was DUTTY after DUTTY with new styles, flavours, crowds, a little mayhem, some surprises, great stories, great people, a little trouble (good trouble), reconnecting with old homies, but most importantly - KILLER sets and crazy fun!

dj NaNa has held down all the DUTTYs for the last year so this time around there will be no opening set, straight up dj NaNa all night starting at 10:30! That's 2 times the NaNa you're used to!!

Come early, no reason to wait at home til it's late... We'll be THERE!!

dj NaNa and Paul E Lopes - both musical stalwarts in this fine city of ours...

These guys have been rocking parties and keeping folks happy with their selections over the last couple decades....

You may have seen NaNa at his weekly "KNOWN Mondays" at Cold Tea, in the lounge at the Drake, maybe even on the mic for his group with I James "The Names are Known" and guest spots all over the city....

You may have caught Paul E Lopes spinning at "Bump and Hustle" at the Rivoli (for 16+yrs now) and frequent guest spots at every other kind of event where there is need for a party rocker for music loving party people....

What makes this night so special then? They are not Reggae djs.... Both of them can and do, play all genres under the sun...

BUT this night, they will both be spinning Reggae and Dancehall all night!

Something special...... so so speshalll....
