Ballet Creole Presents "The Antagonist" @ The Fleck Dance Theatre, Harbourfront, Centre, Toronto, ON - Thurs Apr 7th - Sat Apr 9th!

“The ANTAGONIST”
Part of Harbourfront Centre’s Next Steps Series, April 7 - 9 @ The Fleck Theatre, Harbourfront Centre, Toronto, ON

**Presenting New & Remounted Works by: Artistic Director, Patrick Parson; Associate Choreographer,Gabby Kamino; Guest Choreographers: Danny Grossman, Debbie Wilson & José Carret Morejón**

Ballet Creole, forerunners of Blacks in Dance in Canada, and hailed as, “one of Toronto’s top dance companies…” by Dance Critic, Paula Citron, heats up the stage with a sensual, soulful & sizzling collection of new & remounted works by some of Canada’s top choreographers; featuring a World Premiere Ballet, The Antagonist, by Cuban-born choreographer, José Carret Morejón.

Fuelled with explosive Afro-Cuban rhythms, The Antagonist is a duel of the sexes delving into the complexities of love, relationships and the antagonisms beneath the surface.

Canadian dance icon, Danny Grossman, returns to work with Ballet Creole for a 3rd season. This year Grossman remounts Inching (1976), an intimate pas de deux where - inch by inch – the dancers unravel, unfurl, and negotiate the physical and personal limits of space and each other.

The World Premiere of Trouchka by Artistic Director, Patrick Parson, continues in his legacy to innovate, experiment and challenge the boundaries of ‘traditional’ and ‘contemporary’ aesthetics. The results in a bold choreographic statement set to the emotional and rhythmic structure of Stravinsky’s classical score

Guest choreographer, Debbie Wilson, known for her powerful & moving choreography, remounts Raphael is whispering (1998), an homage to her late-husband and respected dancer, Jaques Marcil. Wilson’s duet examines those moments when realms of existence collide, and when one is forced to let go of two to become one. A new ballet, Mmele wa hao o keo ratang (Your Body that I Love) by Associate choreographer Gabby Kamino, rounds out a dance Season of diverse programming.
