Our 2nd time around with Toronto's supreme lords of funk music, THE SOUL MOTIVATORS!

In the year since we had them at Footprints they've been keeping a busy schedule playing all over Canada to capacity crowds!
They've also been finely tuning their sound and getting tighter by the minute. Their recently released s/t debut EP is no nonsense gut bucket raw funk goodness from beginning to end.

We can't wait to see what they have in store for us this time around.

Footprints Meets Timekode @ The Rivoli, Toronto, ON - Sat May 25th!

This is something we've been waiting to happen for a long time! We are super happy to welcome our good friends and like minded Ottawa crew TIMEKODE (DJ's Zattar + Eric Roberts + Memetic) to Footprints this month! Here's brief description from their website to let you know what they're all about!

Starting as an idea for a party to expand one city's musical horizons in 2005 TIMEKODE has grown to become a movement. The TK signal pulses from the blissfully hot and sweaty dancefloor of the Eri Café on the 3rd Friday of every month in Ottawa, Canada's capital city. It aims at the planet via the usual host of social media suspects, and our monthly live-to-air broadcast on terrestrial and internet radio; but only because it can't reach other worlds....yet.

The root of the name is in the bytes that began traveling through samplers and drum machines in the early eighties. MIDI timecode is the data that keeps sample loops, filtered basslines and drum hits moving in unison – it’s the glue that holds together a culture based on pulling together bits of the past to create the sounds of the future.

Our own take on it is a little broader. It’s exposing the exciting new rap, bass and house from this golden age of sample-based music. But it’s also celebrating the raw materials - the classic soul, funk, disco and reggae. It's about keeping the tradition of mixing music and dancing alive while exploring the freshest sounds of yesterday, today and tomorrow with two turntables and a microphone. And you of course.

Year after year our dancefloor proves it; Ottawa's got soul, and while everything changes, soul is forever!

how exciting is it to watch a dj spin 45s?? I mean, it ain't easy... for me, it is exhilarating to watch/listen to a dj blend music on the spot with only a minute or two in between, keeping the party moving AND make it sound good... amazing... i mean, magnificent!
