About b current:
b current is the hotbed for culturally-rooted theatre development in the Toronto area. Originally founded as a place for black artists to create, nurture, and present their new works, our company has grown to support artists from all diasporas.
We have striven for over 22 years to create space for diverse voices to be heard, always with a focus on engaging the communities from which our stories emerge. As a result, these communities hold our company in trust and respect the work that we do.
We have acquired strong cultural currency with our audiences, whether they are defined by ethnic experience, social values, or political awareness, these groups are loyal to our programming because they recognize the high level of cultural authenticity and integrity we foster in our artists and their works. Our award-winning professional training program – the rAiz'n Ensemble - has graduated scores of nationally and internationally acclaimed artists (Weyni Mengesha, d’bi young (Dora winner), Ngozi Paul (CAB Winner, Gemini Nominee), Joseph Jomo Pierre, (Governor General Award winner), trey Anthony (NAACP winner, dora nominee) and scores of others. Our annual rock.paper.sistahz festival has been the springboard for numerous award-winning new works over the past 12 years.
Note: Childcare will be available for children up to 12yrs old.
Please email Jasmin Linton at info@JELLentertainment.com for media, donations, silent auction opportunities or tax receipts.

FRIDAY MAY 10th
ZimZum
ZimZums' influences start with the melodic jazz funk of Weather Report, Spirogyra and
Pat Metheny. Combining the joy of that music with a harder edge influenced by the modal explorations of Coltrane, Herbie Hancock and Dave Holland gives them the freedom
to delve deeper into their own musical journeys.

Mike Field
Trumpeter and composer Mike Field is a Toronto-based musician who performs regularly at jazz venues, festivals and on tour both in Canada and internationally.
Mike began studying trumpet classically at the age of 10. After many years of private lessons with the Toronto Symphony's Bart Woomert, he studied at New York University with Warren Vaché and Laurie Frink.
After touring Canada three times, he and the rock/funk band Jay Spectre were awarded a grant from the Ontario Arts Council to tour New Zealand in January 2010 to promote their latest album. He has played for full houses at Toronto's Horseshoe Tavern, El Mocambo and other renowned venues in many Canadian cities. In the reggae collective High Plains Drifter, Mike has performed at the Toronto Beaches Jazz Festival and at numerous Bob Marley and Peter Tosh tribute shows in his hometown. As a member of the experimental music group the cs field trio, Mike has toured throughout Germany and France, including the FIMU Festival in Belfort, France. In New Zealand, his trumpet can be heard in the experimental bossa-nova collective The Inverts.
