Renowned Canadian writer Lawrence Hill joins The Nathaniel Dett Chorale for a multimedia presentation based on his award winning novel, The Book of Negroes. This concert will weave together excerpts read by Mr. Hill, with favourite folk, classical, spirituals and jazz selections by the Chorale and the Joe Sealy Quartet.

All concerts will take place at our beautiful new venue, Koerner Hall, TELUS Centre for Performance and Learning, just west of the ROM on Bloor Street.

Nathaniel Dett Chorale present

The poetic and musical traditions of Haiti, and in particular the Creole language and spirituality. The concert will feature the works of Haitian composer Sydney Guillaume including a 'World Premiere' yet to be named, as well as 'Kalinda', 'Anmwe', 'Mama Afrika', 'Pour Toi Mère' and 'Diplomaci: II, Koute-Tande'.

About the Choir: The Nathaniel Dett Chorale is Canada's first professional choral group dedicated to Afrocentric music of all styles, including classical, spiritual, gospel, jazz, folk and blues. These 21 classically trained, outstanding vocalists have shared the stage with internationally recognized artists such as Juno Award-winning jazz pianist Joe Sealy, opera star Kathleen Battle, and the Toronto Symphony Orchestra. The Nathaniel Dett Chorale’s mission is to build bridges of understanding, appreciation and acceptance between communities of people, both Afrocentric and other, through the medium of music. They seek to dissolve the barriers of stereotype, to empower humans in general, and those of African descent in particular.

has arranged a beautiful assortment of musical selections from artists Margaret

The Christmas concert will also mark the release of The Nathaniel Dett

Chorale’s highly anticipated new CD, entitled Nguzo Saba, featuring works by
