Beat, Rhymes & Lights is an entertainment showcase based on the art of the performance poetry of one of Canada’s nationally recognized Spoken Word Artists and Beat-boxer, Eddy 'DA ORIGINAL ONE'. You're invited to join Eddy for an energizing evening of entertainment featuring his collection of new and old poems and stories in his first solo performance showcase. He is virtually a vocal one man Band!

Eddy has been one of the principal players on the Ottawa and Toronto poetry scene since 1991, performing and producing a variety of shows and events. Eddy’s remarkable talent as a Spoken Word artist is exceptionally entertaining, but his unique talent as a beat-boxer along with his charismatic presence on stage is definitely something not to be missed! Born in Canada and raised in Trinidad and Tobago, he proudly represents his dual heritage and has shared the stage with many award-winning artists across North America, from Vancouver, Calgary, Halifax, Montreal, Ottawa, Toronto and New York to Miami! As a poet, performer and producer, over the years he’s been featured at numerous literary and music events such as ‘When Brothers Speak’ Spoken Word Concert, Harbourfront’s ‘Island Soul’ and ‘Beats, Break & Culture’ Festivals, Toronto Storytelling Festival, the Festival of Oral Literature, the ‘CFSW (Canadian Festival of Spoken Word) Poetry Legends Showcase’, and the ‘2011 Canadian Beat-boxer Championship’ as a VIP judge.

On Thursday, March 15th, we bring to you the return of Toronto's sexiest night of poetry and shananigans! If you remember year one, the show was for ladies only, and guys were only allowed to attend if a woman brought them. Last year, we opened the show up to men, and this year, we've included elements in the show just for our male audience members.

 

As usual, we keep the contents of the show under wraps, so that only the Members (those with a ticket) know all of the goodness that is planned for them. What we can tell you is that Dwayne Morgan has ten poems that he's never performed before, which you'll be hearing for the first time.

 

Let us warn you though, this show is all about sensuality and sexuality, so it is not for the conservative, but for those who enjoy a good, adult time.

 

We describe the show as the most fun you can have in public with your clothes on, and this year promises to be no different!!

Dwayne Morgan Intimate and Interactive @ Knowledge Bookstore, Toronto, ON - Fri Aug 6th!

It's been 17 years now, and Up From The Roots founder, Dwayne Morgan, is still going strong, and still producing material at an incredible rate. Many have sought Dwayne's ear for advice on their own poetry and careers. As a result, Knowledge Bookstore and Up From The Roots are proud to present: Dwayne Morgan, Intimate and Interactive on Friday, August 6, 2010, 8pm.

Intimate and Interactive will feature Dwayne performing over an hours worth of his favourite material. Throughout the event, he will share insights, inspirations, and stories about the poems, and the audience is encouraged to ask any questions they may have about the poem, the process, or Dwayne's career.

This promises to be a great night of entertainment and enlightenment. Knowledge Bookstore is located at 177 Queen Street West in Brampton, and admission is only $5. Knowledge keeps Dwayne's books and albums in stock, and Dwayne will be autographing them after the show.
