Film Screening: AKWANTU: THE JOURNEY @ Innis Town Hall, University of Toronto, ON - Fri Aug 23rd!

Featured Panel Discussion by Roy T. Anderson, Director & Producer of Akwantu-The Journey

Akwantu: the Journey documents the struggle for freedom of the Maroons of Jamaica who were able to flee the plantations and slave ships to form communities in some of the most inhospitable regions of the island. The Maroons are the new world’s first freedom fighters as highlighted by Akwantu-The Journey.

This Special Screening of Akwantu-The Journey is in Recognition of the United Nations International Day for the Remembrance of Slavery and the Abolition of the Slave Trade and builds on international events to recognize and celebrate day globally.

This event joins an international forum of screenings in Kingston (JAM), Los Angeles (USA), Liverpool (UK), Ocho Rios (JAM) and builds on the celebratory events of Jamaica 50 Celebrations in Canada and the Black History Month activities in the Toronto and Greater Toronto Area (GTA). The film is being screened yet again in response to the overwhelming demand.
