Bio & History
Gene discovered DJing and started playing high school dances and roller rinks at the age of 13.
On the Production side, from 1991 to the present, Gene King has remixed and produced music for numerous labels like: Contraband, A&M, BMG, KMS, Defender, Slip N’Slide, Debut, Hi-Bias, Warner , Easy Street, Ultrasound and most recently , Seasons Recordings , Foliage Records Jellybean Soul Records in NYC and the Legendary 157 Shelter Records in New York City.
In 1993 he co-founded Contraband records with Carlos Clarke and In October 2005 He founded Shines Records
While busy in the studio and Djing at the downtown clubs, Gene also became a programmer for the now defunct CKLN.88.1 FM in 1993 – DJ’ing on Midnight Madness ( later called Soul fusion Express ) then Djing and producing Vibes N’ Vinyl which aired every Friday night/Saturday Morning on the same station for 16 years .
Gene is currently working on remixes and production for artists Suges Deep Xcape, Indy Soul, Monocles and Slezz, Chezere, Wayne Tennant, Dana Byrd and Tantra Zawadi, for releases on Mixed Signals Music, Foliag, Gotta Keep Faith Records, Shines Records and Smooth Agent Records.
