David Heron's Ecstasy @ Various Locations, Toronto, ON - Fri Oct 15 - 17, 23, 24

David Heron's ECSTASY:
2 weekends of Ecstasy in October

David Heron’s first full length stage play is a romantic comedy about an unlikely but passionate affair that develops between a light skinned Jamaican 'uptown boy' employed to a top advertising agency, and an ebony coloured exotic dancer from 'the wrong side of the tracks.' A funny but realistic look at issues of race, colour and class in Jamaica as well as the emergence of the still popular 'dancehall' culture, Ecstasy became one of the longest running plays in Jamaican history after its premiere.

Starring: Deon Silvera, David Heron, Nadia Khan, Al St. Louis & Flower Pryce. Directed By: Douglas Prout. Produced by: Kingston 6 Entertainment Associate Producer: Roots International Arts Theatre

Set in the boardrooms, bedrooms and dance halls of modern day Jamaica, Ecstasy is the romantic comedy that successfully launched the play-writing career of Jamaican David Heron.

It also made a bona fide star of Jamaican leading lady, Deon Silvera.
The story follows the turbulent relationship between two very different Jamaicans - Richard Foster-the handsome, light skinned, upwardly mobile advertising executive raised in wealth an...d luxury, and Jewel Brown - the sexy, ebony coloured nightclub dancer fighting for love and respectability.

At once comic, dramatic and romantic, Ecstasy is an all too true analysis of a society in which social graces are but skin deep and issues of colour, class and social status continue to dominate the human psyche at every level.
Set to the driving rhythms of the Jamaican dancehall, the stage play remains a cultural phenomenon and a landmark in Jamaican theatre - one of the longest running and most popular Jamaican plays in the nation’s history.
