The Drifters are a long-lived American doo-wop and
R&B/soul vocal group with a peak in popularity from 1953 to 1963.
The Drifters managed to carve out a place for themselves in the R&B
firmament and also define that music, not only at its inception as a
national chart phenomenon in the early '50s but also in the decade that
followed.
The Marvelettes were an American singing girl
group. As Motown's first successful female vocal group, they are most
notable for recording the company's first #1 Pop hit, "Please Mr.
Postman", and for setting the precedent for later Motown girl groups
such as Martha and the Vandellas and the Supremes.
