“Itutu” derives from the Yoruba group in South western Nigeria and means roughly “mystic coolness.” In this new body of work “Tutu”, Stella plays with the idea of “cool” that is not limited to a specific style or attitude. Instead her work examines “cool” as an intangible notion that is deep-rooted in African and African diasporic cultural and societal codes.
