Some of Canada’s finest talents including Gemini and Dora-Award-winning Jackie Richardson, rock and soul vocalist, Saidah Baba Talibah, Juno-Award-winning jazz pianist and composer Joe Sealy, and many more, especially including his family, pay tribute to the late jazz pioneer Archie Alleyne, C.M. who died last week at the age of 82 from prostate cancer.
This public tribute is a free event hosted by the Alleyne family to celebrate Archie's fearless spirit, love for life, family and music. Backed by Alleyne’s nine-piece Evolution of Jazz Ensemble and Kollage, the contemporary hard bop sextet he co-founded with the late Doug Richardson, there will also be a rare opportunity to see photos and biographies archived by Alleyne chronicling his 60 plus year career in music, business and philanthropy.

Micah Barnes & Jackie Richardson – A Jazz Valentine @ Hugh's Room, Toronto, ON - Sat Feb 11th!

Two of Canada’s most beloved Jazz vocalists join forces for an evening of romantic music, delicious food and a celebration of all thinks Valentine’s, featuring an all star band and the classic Jazz and Blues Standards that define the mood of love and romance.
A perfect date night. Book early!
Micah Barnes began performing in the cafes and coffeehouses of Toronto while still a teenager in high school. Acting and writing for theatre helped inform his work, as did a musical family including his father Milton Barnes, a classical composer and mother Lilly Barnes, who wrote for the popular children’s TV show Mr. Dressup.
A dazzling performer, Jackie Richardson possesses a powerful and supple voice that is a perfect match for her vibrant stage presence. The awards and nominations for Jackie’s four-decade-long body of work include JUNOs, Geminis, Jessie and Bessie’s, Maple Blues and a Canadian Black Achievement Award for the Arts. Her unforgettable roles have ranged from theatre performances in Ain’t Misbehavin’ (Dora), and Cookin’ At the Cookery as Alberta Hunter (Dora); film performances in Turning to Stone as Dunk (Gemini), and Sins of the Father (NAACP); as well as her role as Jazz on the popular children’s TV series Doodle Bops.
