You may have seen snippets of him in his latest video with Nipsey Hussle or maybe you saw him posted up with Drake on Instagram. His records have been blasting on OVORadio with singles produced by Boi-1da and Murdabeats.

Regardless, Big Lean is a name you should know now, and definitely one you won't forget.

Regent Park School of Music is a non-profit community music school that focuses on giving children the opportunity to express themselves through music, and subsequently gives them the necessary tools needed to be successful through life.

As a part of Luminato 2016, MNFSTO10 has partnered with the festival to showcase the incredibly talented students of the Parkdale Nonsense Orchestra and the Regent Park Wind Ensemble.

IN CONVERSATION WITH...KID CAPRI and COMBAT JACK

When you combine two iconic figures in hip-hop history, you get a very rare and special occasion of open discussion not just about music, but about the culture. On February 22nd, Combat Jack - host of the podcast The Combat Jack Show, and legendary DJ Kid Capri will be sitting down to speak candidly about the history of hip-hop and it's growth since the late 70s when it was birthed. Speaking on an array of topics from where did the DJ come from to how has reality TV impacted hip-hop culture, Combat Jack and Kid Capri will surely provide a wealth of knowledge for both a new hip-hop generation and the 80s babies who grew up with it.

DJ Kid Capri is a trailblazing hip hop artist, internationally renown DJ & Grammy winning producer in conversation with host Combat Jack, NYC journalist and podcast personality.

About Ernie Paniccioli: Regarded by most to be the premier “Hip-Hop photographer in America”, Paniccioli first made his foray into the culture in 1973 when he began capturing the ever-present graffiti art dominating New York City. Armed with a 35-millimeter camera, Paniccioli has recorded the entire evolution of Hip Hop. From Grandmaster Flash at the Roxy (a popular Manhattan nightclub of the late 70’s and early 1980s), to the athletic moves of the legendary Rock Steady Crew, to the fresh faces of Queen Latifah, Tupac Shakur, The Notorious B.I.G., Eminem, and Lauren Hill. Paniccioli has been in the forefront documenting the greatest cultural movement since Rock and Roll in the 1950s. A true renaissance man, Paniccioli is also a painter, public speaker, and historian. He has also photographed a number of popular figures beyond Hip Hop, such as Frank Sinatra, Liza Minelli, and John F. Kennedy, Jr.; Britney Spears; and Ricky martin, to name a few.

About Che Kothari: Artist, photographer, director, producer, organizer, and instigator, Chetan Kothari, more affectionately known as “Che”, brings an army of energy towards anything he creates. Beginning as a portrait and events photographer in Toronto, Che has had intimate portrait sessions with the likes of Ziggy Marley, Ice Cube (NWA), Chuck D (Public Enemy), Zaki Ibrahim, Common, Cypress Hill, A Tribe Called Quest, Talib Kweli, Dead Prez, Sizzla, Afrika Bambaataa, K’naan, Erykah Badu, Nas, k-os, Shad, and several others. Manifesto and Artscape in partnership with the Ada Slaight Youth Arts Mentorship Program & IFREECAN are proud to present, “In Conversation With… Warsan Shire” this Saturday, August 17 at Daniels Spectrum. Join us for a conversation with one of the most talented and thought-provoking writers today.

Warsan Shire is a London-based, Kenyan born Somali poet most well known for her bold and beautiful works of poetry. Her first book “Teaching My Mother How To Give Birth” was published in 2011. Shire has also been published in many notable poetry publications such as Magma, Poetry Review and much more. Her work spans a global reach, having been translated into Italian, Portugese, and Spanish. She has also performed everywhere from South Africa to Italy.

Shire will also be in Toronto performing at IFREECAN’s “The Ism” event, (August 17, 2013 at the Revival Lounge) alongside Toronto based artists. “The Ism” is a celebration of artists that stay true to their artistic vision. Shire is also hosting poetry workshop sessions on August 15th and August 16th at Manifesto Community Projects. For more information please visit here .

#BAM is a Twitter hashtag coined by trumpeter Nic Payton in search of a better way to describe jazz and its musicians today. He considers jazz to be a colonial, marginalizing term and proposes that “Black American Music” is more descriptive of the creative totality of all forms of Afro-American music. Is this term accurate and useful? Moreover what does #BAM mean to Toronto which, after all, is not located in America but nonetheless possesses creative Black music traditions of its own? akLaff and Kamau are both keepers of tradition and relentless experimentalists; their views will help shape the #BAM summit.
