Kraken Black Spiced Rum
Are you ready to RELEASE THE KRAKEN?
Named for a Sea Beast of myth and legend, The Kraken is imported Black Rum from the Caribbean blended with spices, for a rich, smooth and strong taste. The rich black colour takes its hue from the mysterious ink with which, as legend has it, THE KRAKEN, a squid of epic proportions, covered its prey.
Distilled in Trinidad and Tobago, The Kraken Rum is made from naturally sweet molasses sourced from locally-grown sugar cane. The rum is then aged for 1-2 years, and blended with a mix of 11 spices enriching the liquid with notes of ginger, cinnamon and clove.
The bottle is styled after a Victorian rum bottle, with two hoop handles based on the tradition of hanging a bottle to prevent breakages.
The Kraken tastes great as a shot, on the rocks, or as a delicious Kraken Dark ‘N Stormy.
Join us on Tuesday June 27that 6:30 pm for Kraken Rum Tasting, and enjoy the Caribbean spirit of Rum

Brugal Rum Tasting @ The Real Jerk, Toronto, ON - Tues May 31st!
Enjoy the Spirit of Rum
Join us for an evening of good friends, great music and outstanding Rum
Enjoy the Taste of the Caribbean at The Real Jerk Restaurant Brugal Rum Tasting
THE BRUGAL DIFFERENCE
A DIFFERENT KIND OF RUM
Since 1888, Brugal has been creating distinctly different rum, and there are two very important things that set Brugal apart from others. The first is the Brugal method of distillation, which removes much of what other rums leave in, resulting in a spirit that is cleaner, dryer and less sweet. The second is an unwavering dedication to cask-aging every drop of Brugal, using the same wood policy as the world’s finest Single Malt Scotch Whisky. Because we cask-age our rum in the year-round heat and humidity of the Dominican Republic, maturation is accelerated, contributing to a balanced, sophisticated family of rums unlike any other.

Rum Tasting @ The Real Jerk, Toronto, ON - Tues Mar 29th!
Are you a Real Jerk Rum Connoisseur?
Join us on Tuesday March 29 at 6:30 pm for our monthly rum tasting with El Dorado Rum
El Dorado Rum
Lured by the legend of a City of Gold ruled by a gilded King, his body dusted with gold, early explorers braved the ancient heartland of old Guiana in search of ‘El Dorado’ (the Golden One).
The legendary city of gold is reputed to have been Manoa, in the Rupununi region of the country. Today you can discover the true gold of Guyana, El Dorado Rum – a range of superb Demerara rums of unequalled quality and variety which have consistently won the highest International awards.
Their unique flavour and taste is much due to the tropical climate of this lush country of Guyana - which translates from its Amerindian name “Land of many waters” - and the three centuries of rum production along the banks of the Demerara river.
El Dorado Rum strikes a satisfying balance between sweet, smoky and savory; aged in a combination of whisky and bourbon barrels, it boasts unctuous, honeyed tropical fruit notes along with more brooding tobacco, cedar and pepper.
Join us on Tuesday March 29 : 6:30-8:30 pm, and enjoy the spirit of Rum

Documentary Film Screening: Queen Nanny Legendary Maroon Chieftainess @ U of T, Innis Town Hall, Toronto, ON - Sun Sept 13th!
On SUN SEPT 13th, 2015 Jamaica National will host a special test screening of ‘QUEEN NANNY: LEGENDARY MAROON CHIEFTAINESS, a documentary about the legendary leader of the Maroons of Jamaica. The event is open to the public and free of charge, with donations accepted at the door. Best known for his documentary AKWANTU: THE JOURNEY about the Maroons of Jamaica, filmmaker Roy T. Anderson invites you to a test screening of his new film ‘Queen Nanny’.
The film highlights the intriguing story of Nanny, a queen captured in her homeland and forcefully transported across the Atlantic Ocean in the belly of a slave ship. Once in her new home, she eventually rose to become the leader and warrior chieftaniness of a new nation. She led a band of former enslaved Africans during the early to mid-18th century up into the rugged mountains of Jamaica to strategically plan and overtake the powerful British army.
Sadly, not many people outside of Jamaica know of the Legendary “Nanny” warrior chieftainess of the Jamaican Maroons. The Maroons have maintained a continuous presence in Jamaica for more than three hundred years; living on the same treaty lands gained as a result of their epic 80-year plus battle with the vaunted British military. Their proud African-based language, culture and governance are still very much alive today.
One of the goals in making this film is to eventually have copies available in classrooms, universities, libraries, and cultural organizations in Africa and throughout the diaspora. In our own small way, we're hoping that this film can be used as a catalyst to help safeguard and highlight one of the world's most fascinating cultures that is being threatened with extinction.
The film will have its official World Premiere on Mon October 19, 2015 at the United Nations Headquarters in New York City. This World Premiere screening and Discussion is part of the UN Remember Slavery Programme of Activities for 2015; which includes a solemn commemorative meeting of the UN General Assembly, film screenings, round table discussions, and an exhibit, among other events. This will be a special red-carpet event sponsored by the Permanent Mission of Jamaica and the Republic of Trinidad & Tobago, in partnership with the UN Department of Public Information, and Action 4 Reel Flimworks.

Location: U of T, Innis Town Hall, 2 Sussex Ave, Toronto, ON (corner of St. George, S of Bloor)

We love Rum - Enjoy a Taste of the Caribbean
Havana Rum
Born from centuries of Cuban tradition, the art of ageing is at the heart of all Havana Club rum and is responsible for the unrivaled appearance, aroma and taste found in every bottle – whether it’s our youngest Havana Club 3 Year Old, Reserva, or 7 Year Old.
The “Isle of Rum”
Cuba has become known as the "Isle of Rum", due to a combination of world-famous sugar cane, a favourable Caribbean climate, fertile soil, and the know-how of our Master Rum-Makers.
The outstanding tropical temperatures actually speeds the ageing process, resulting in rich and bold flavours in a shorter period of time than in colder climates.

Cultural Hotspot x Manifesto: In Conversation with Dwayne Morgan and Randell Adjei @ Children's Peace Theatre, Toronto, ON - Sun May 18th!
From May to October 2014, the Cultural Hotspot Project shines a spotlight on Hotspot East - south Scarborough, bordered by Lawrence Avenue East south to the lake, Victoria Park Avenue east to Highland Creek Village.
NEXT is a youth-led initiative that will see local youth from inner suburban neighbourhoods organize and lead an entertainment showcase, workshops and lectures highlighting the next generation of emerging young artists. This project is in partnership with Manifesto Community Projects and UNITY Charity.
Manifesto will presents their ongoing “In Conversation with…” series as their programming contribution to the NEXT initiative. These entertaining and informative sessions present unique one-on-one conversations with respected artists and community members. The conversations offer a rare opportunity to go beyond the quotes and performances to facilitate intimate and interactive dialogues with artists, activists, and public figures that offer a perspective that embodies the spirit and values of Manifesto.
We're excited to kick-off the monthly series with an In Conversation with legendary Toronto-based spoken word artist, author, and event presenter Dwayne Morgan, which will be hosted by a shining young star in the flourishing next generation spoken word scene Randell Adjei of R.I.S.E.
