Dizzy at 100 with the Brownman Quartet @ Remix Lounge, Toronto, ON - Sat Nov 11th!

Legendary jazz trumpet player John Birks "Dizzy" Gillespie was born in 1917, making 2017 his 100th year anniversary. In celebration of Dizzy's legacy, Brownman Ali -- heralded as "Canada's preeminent jazz trumpet player" by the New York Village Voice -- will pay apt tribute to this towering figure in jazz backed by the Brownman Akoustic Quartet featuring the iconic Terry Clarke on drums (Order of Canada recipient, founding member of the Boss Brass), young 26-year old rising piano star Nick Maclean & the highly in demand Jesse Dietschi on bass. The quartet, under the leadership of this National Jazz Award winning trumpet iconoclast, will delve deeply into Dizzy's engaging compositional works starting with his time with bebop archetype Charlie Parker, through his Afro-Cuban influenced music to some of his more funkified tunes. Expect to hear "A Night In Tunisia", "Con Alma", "Manteca", "Tin Tin Deo" and much more!

:: Brownman Ali - trumpet
:: Nick Maclean - piano
:: Jesse Dietschi - bass
:: Terry Clarke - drums **SPECIAL GUEST**

ZimZums' influences start with the melodic jazz funk of Weather Report, Spirogyra and Pat Metheny. Combining the joy of that music with a harder edge influenced by the modal explorations of Coltrane, Herbie Hancock and Dave Holland gives them the freedom to delve deeper into their own musical journeys.
